OCE needs your help!

Our fight is getting harder. The Bush Administration has turned a deaf ear to pleas from environmental groups, like OCE, to take the threat of global warming seriously. Just recently The President announced a proposal to encourage industry to reduce emissions voluntarily. From the number of lawsuits we have recently filed, it seems highly unlikely that his proposal will be successful.

He has also indicated that the EPA may roll back the New Source Review laws under the Clean Air Act. Currently these laws require new major stationary sources of air pollution to obtain an air pollution permit before commencing construction.

The people who are the most vulnerable -- children and senior citizens -- suffer the most. A recent study has shown that children playing sports in smoggy areas are three times more likely to develop asthma. Another recently published study shows that there is a definitive link between lung cancer risk and extended exposure to fine particles of pollution from power plants and diesel engines. It compared the effects of this kind of pollution with second-hand cigarette smoke.

Your generous support will enable us to continue our efforts to clean the air and make sure that current laws are being enforced. Through litigation, education and advocacy, OCE can and will make a difference.
